Students will interview a senior leader in their organization. The interviewee must be at the Director (or equivalent) or above level in the organization. Try to book 60 minutes for the interview, but if the timeframe needs to increased or decreased, do so at the interviewee’s discretion.
Below are a number of suggested interview questions, but the student is encouraged to ask pertinent and context-specific questions depending on the nature of his/her organization.
- What is his/her definition of leadership?
- What is the interviewee’s role as a leader? How do you know if he/she is an effective leader?
- What leadership characteristics (knowledge/skills/behaviors) does a healthcare administrator need to possess?
- How does the person motivate employees? How about TEAMS?
- What formal training, if any, is offered to employees? At what level? Mid-level? Executive?
- What are the future needs or trends regarding leadership within the organization?
Students must provide the following information for the person being interviewed:
- Name and credentials
- Title
- Number of years with the organization
- Email address
Important!
The focus of this project is the analysis of the interview from an academic perspective. This assignment should be a comprehensive assessment of the leadership constructs discussed in the course and exhibited by the leader. Students should analyze the interview with regard to leadership theories and models, motivational models and team engagement that is demonstrated by the leader. Integrate supporting research to substantiate your assumptions!
